I am seeking to develop a Christian stance towards epistemology and education. The seminary I attend is knee-deep in postmodernism. It seems Christian educators are enamored with the secular academy. It goes something like this:

1. Secular educators remove God from their theories and their thoughts.

2. The enamored Christian educator embraces the secular theories, with their faulty premises and attempts to add-in a Christian dimension.

It's like reconstituted orange juice. You remove the water, and then try to add it back in. It doesn't come out the same!

I am doing a DMin project on plagiarism at an African theological college. Plagiarism has dimensions of both academic (citation skills) and moral (not bearing false witness) development. If anything occurs to you I would appreciate hearing from you. Meanwhile, I shall track down the book!

Thank you, Dr. Mark.

Re: Bullies

Thank you for this positive, invaluable article on just that---free speech!! You have such an unerring comprehension of these characters and their responses to Adam. As I read your work, my heart is filled with sympathy for him, but also for the lesser characters and their lack of compassion. This is a strength of yours---a gift---the ability to delve deeply toward the real needs of others.
Keep on keeping on, and God bless your bright mind!!

Re: 50/50: Movie Review by Tyler Eckel

Well said, Tyler. I often wonder why I so quickly speak to advise rather than to empathize. I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like "Wit." It was originally a stage play that uses Donne's poetry to comment about many aspects of life, love and suffering, but especially shows the evil in detaching from the agony of the person suffering.. I hope you write more reviews. I always enjoyed hearing your thoughts about things, even when you were a fourth-grader in my class many years ago at LCS.

Re: Tightrope: The Poets’ Walk

I appreciated being introduced to this poet by a reviewer who understands what separates disciplined and crafted verse from obscure contrivance. The specific lines used sing in the reader's spirit, and the analysis leads one to long for more and educates the process of reading. Very articulate piece.

Re: Chronicle: Movie Review (with Tyler Eckel)

Yes, mom, it makes our heart hurt too. However, the last line -- "our only alternative: run faster than the bullet"? Reminds me of Columbine---could they? You say you don't know what or how to "anticipate", but you are doing just that in drawing your mind and heart to YOUR child and to your delight in her. It seems a reflection yet unknown toward this new life that will soon be yours to treasure as well!

Chelsea writes with depth yet a lightness that brings "light" to her review and makes you want to immerse yourself in this poetry. As her thoughts revolve around this child, my expectation is "love poems" in their purest form.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful "track" to your heart.

Re: Valor

It is with difficulty I approach this day because of the tears shed for even the unknown of all those who have made my freedoms possible! Teachers, I think, need to provide narrative as well - great people, events, and movements. In fact, I imagine that the monotonous repetition of dates, places, and names, with nothing else added, has made many students hate the idea of studying history.
